Embrace Convenience with Buying Fresh Dates Fruit Online in Malaysia

Kedai Kurma

Buying dates in person means a trip, a queue and a guess about what is in the box. Ordering online swaps all of that for one clear message, as long as you know what to ask for. Every date sold in Malaysia is imported, so the useful questions are about variety, origin, ripeness and weight. This guide goes through them in the order you would need them, starting with the date this site is named after.

Start with the name on the listing

Sayer is an Iranian date from Khuzestan, and it is also traded as Stamaran. It is amber-brown and semi-dry. It is a separate variety from Shahani, so treat a listing that mixes the two names as a question to ask the seller, not an answer.

Two other Iranian semi-dry varieties are worth knowing by name. Mariami is dark, semi-dry and chewy. Piarom, from Hormozgan, is dark and semi-dry with a thin skin. They are separate varieties, and a good listing keeps them apart.

What "fresh" means for a date

The word fresh is vague for a date. The trade has two clearer words. Rutab (or rotab) is the soft, fresh-ripe stage, and tamr (or tamar) is the fully ripe, drier stage. Ask which one you are getting.

Mazafati from Bam, in Iran's Kerman province, is one soft example. It is dark and very soft, with high moisture, and it is cold-stored and sold year-round. It needs refrigeration.

From outside Iran, Medjool dates are large and very soft with a rich caramel taste. The variety originated in Morocco.

Comparing prices from your phone

This is where online buying saves money as well as time. Two tabs open side by side are easier than walking between stalls. Compare the price per kilo of net fruit, not the price per box, because box sizes differ.

Grade letters such as A, AA, AAA or Jumbo need a closer look on larger orders. They are each importer's own size sorting, not an international standard, so an AAA from one seller and an AAA from another are not the same thing. Ask what the grade means in that shop.

An older post on this site, wholesale dates prices in Malaysia, is not a price list, so ask for a current quote before you commit.

One message instead of a trip

The About Us page, written in Malay, says the site handles everything from retail purchases to wholesale supply, delivers across the country, and takes questions, quote requests and orders on WhatsApp. The Contact Us page lists the number, +60 17-312 2220.

Put everything in the first message. Name the variety and grade, the weight per box, the number of boxes, the delivery town and the date you need it by. If it is for a wedding or a kenduri, say so, because the box count can be very different from a household order.

Timing your order

Demand for dates in Malaysia peaks before and during Ramadan. Hari Raya, weddings (hantaran), kenduri and umrah gifts are other peaks through the year. Gulf and Middle-East dates are mostly harvested from late summer to autumn, and new-season stock reaches Malaysia some weeks later. If your order is tied to one of those dates, plan around it rather than around the harvest.

When the parcel arrives

Open it the day it comes. Check the label against your message: variety, grade, weight and number of boxes. If anything differs, reply in the same WhatsApp thread with a photo while the details are fresh on both sides. Any Mazafati goes straight into the fridge.

That is the whole job. Buying dates online is easier when you know what to type, and nobody has to drive anywhere.
